KÉKFRANKOS
HUNGARY’S FLAGSHIP RED

Deeply rooted in Central Europe, Kékfrankos (also known as Blaufränkisch) is Hungary’s most widely planted red grape. Juicy, peppery, and full of vibrant acidity, it is the backbone of Egri Bikavér and Szekszárd’s blends — but also shines as a single-varietal red with serious ageing potential.

HISTORY OF KÉKFRANKOS

Kékfrankos has long been at the heart of Central European winemaking, grown across Hungary, Austria, and the Balkans. In Hungary, it became central to Egri Bikavér and Szekszárdi Bikavér, where it provides acidity, structure, and backbone. Once seen as rustic, it is now celebrated as Hungary’s flagship red grape, producing wines that can rival top European reds in elegance and ageability.
