Petra and Balázs Sziegl are among Hungary’s most exciting young couples in wine. Farming organically across the sandy loess of Hajós-Baja, they revive forgotten grapes like Kövidinka.
Their wines are light, vibrant, and unpretentious — proof that southern Hungary can produce some of the most drinkable natural wines in Europe.

THE STORY BEHIND
The story of Sziegl Pince began in 2012 with an 80-year-old vineyard gifted to Petra and Balázs — and a single borrowed barrel. Their first wine was Kadarka, and the old vines on the outskirts of Hajós quickly became their favourite escape from university life in Budapest.
Between horticulture classes and weekend harvests, they realised this was where their future lay. Over time, every forint and bottle sold went back into the land — what began as one parcel has grown into 8.5 hectares across five sites in Hajós and Érsekhalma, in Hungary’s southern plains.
HAJÓS-BAJA
THE SOUTHERN VOICE OF HUNGARIAN WINE

- Located near the Serbian border, Hajós–Baja is part of Hungary’s southern Danube region.
- Characterised by loess and sandy soils over clay subsoils — producing wines that are ripe yet finely textured.
- Warm, sunny days and cooling breezes from the Danube create ideal conditions for balanced, fruit-driven reds and aromatic whites.
- Once overlooked, the region is now gaining quiet recognition thanks to small, forward-thinking producers like Sziegl, proving that the plains can speak with finesse, not just power.
